What a Lawyer Can Do For You
Raising a Concern
Making a Complaint
If you're unhappy with the service you've received from a Zambian lawyer, you should first raise the matter directly with the lawyer or their firm, many concerns can be resolved this way.
If the matter isn't resolved, you may lodge a formal complaint with the Law Association of Zambia. Complaints about professional conduct are considered by the Ethics & Disciplinary Committee, which can investigate and, where appropriate, take disciplinary action against a member.
To make a complaint, write to the Secretariat setting out the lawyer's name and firm, the nature of your complaint, and any supporting documents.

Your Protections as a Client
Client Protection
Every advocate practising in Zambia is bound by the LAZ Code of Conduct, which sets standards for how members must handle client instructions, communicate fees, manage conflicts of interest, and hold client funds separately from the firm's own money.
Members are required to hold a current practising certificate, and conduct that falls short of these standards can be reported to the Ethics & Disciplinary Committee, which has the power to investigate and discipline members.
These protections exist so that anyone instructing a Zambian lawyer can do so with confidence.
