About LAZ
The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) is the statutory professional body established under the Law Association of Zambia Act to regulate and represent legal practitioners in Zambia.

We exist to uphold the rule of law, maintain the standards and independence of the legal profession, and promote access to justice for all Zambians.

Every advocate admitted to practise in Zambia is a member of the Association, which is governed by an elected Law Council and supported by an Executive Secretariat and a network of standing committees covering everything from continuing professional development to ethics and legal aid.

Our History

Our History
The Law Association of Zambia was established in 1973 under the Law Association of Zambia Act, to unite the country's legal practitioners under a single, self-regulating statutory professional body.

Over more than five decades, LAZ has grown alongside the nation's legal system from its founding membership to a national body representing over 5,000 legal practitioners across every province.

Throughout its history, the Association has held to its guiding principles of integrity, professionalism, independence and accountability playing a central role in the development of Zambian law, the defence of judicial independence, and the advancement of access to justice for ordinary citizens.

Law Council

LAZ is governed by an elected Law Council comprising the President, Vice-President and a body of elected members representing the profession nationally.

Council elections are held at the Annual General Meeting in accordance with the LAZ Constitution, with members serving fixed terms.

The Executive Secretariat is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Association membership records, CPD delivery, member communications and support for Council and the committees.

Our Constitution

Our Constitution
The LAZ Constitution sets out the objects of the Association, the qualifications and obligations of membership, the composition and powers of Council, and the rules governing meetings, elections and discipline.

Amendments to the Constitution require approval by members at a General Meeting in accordance with the procedures it sets out.

Members may request a copy of the current Constitution from the Secretariat.
